The aim of The Science of Horticulture is to offer a comprehensive understanding of recent scientific advancements in horticulture to a wide range of stakeholders, including students, scientists, extension officers, farmers, and policy planners. In a global marketplace, the marketing of horticultural products has taken on increased significance due to the establishment of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Over 110 countries have signed various trade-related agreements. The Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS Agreement), in particular, demonstrates the commitment of member countries to utilizing intellectual property as a means of achieving economic balance and reducing trade barriers. The legislative history of the TRIPS Agreement, which includes the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), the Madrid Agreement, the Chairmans draft, the Dunkel draft, and general protection under article 22, offers insight into the development of the agreement. Additionally, the TRIPS Agreement includes specific provisions related to intellectual property rights. A few examples of horticultural products that have been registered under Geographical Indication (Gi) appellation include Malabar Pepper, Alleppy Green Cardamom, Assam Tea, Darjeeling Tea, Nilgiri Tea, and Coorge Orange. The information provided in this response was contributed by Latha S. Nair of the Intellectual Property Firm in Gurgaon.
